“High stakes” takes on an entirely different meaning when your role in a multi-planet factorial face-off could potentially determine the fate of every life in the Centauri Ring--especially when what you're used to is brokering alliances between governmental business contracts.

But facilitating peace talks between the Neo-Green Coalition and the Industrial Alliance will save lives, and not unimportantly: this is going to be a huge boost for your rank in LexiCorp. Promotion, here you come.

Spending a few months squeezed into close quarters with some crew you don't know is a small sacrifice in comparison.

Except-

When you get to the rendezvous point things don't quite go as planned. And you know what they say:

the road to intergalactic warfare is paved with good intentions.

THE CREW

Amarak, Captain of The Harbinger, runs a tight ship. Steady, capable, and suffering no fools–she’s respected by all of her crew. Though others say that she climbed the ranks at such a young age through less than professional means...

Wolf, gunner #1 and known menace, likes to push people’s buttons until they blow up in his face like his favourite IEDs. A snarky thrillseeker at best and an acerbic jerk at worst, Wolf is also incredibly capable and deeply loyal to those he respects. That said, despite his friendship with Amarak Wolf makes no effort to hide how much he dislikes being here. Which begs the question what he's staying for...

For all his peculiarities Cipher’s skills as an engineer are unparalleled, though the rest of the crew might admit his capabilities more readily if he wasn’t in the habit of running malware on the ship’s network for fun. It’s a mystery how they even got on The Harbinger at all, but it’s clear they don’t enjoy the same freedom the others have...

Ethan, overqualified administration/communication employee, fulfills his calling as Just Some Guy with exemplary performance just like everything else he puts his mind to. His special skills are unreadable smiles and fading into the background; maybe that's why none of the crew really know much about him...

Just like their family line of lawmakers and celebrities Naseem Pathak lives their life as diplomatic envoy in the public eye. While they've escaped the burn of the spotlight so far, their family name is no stranger to gossip, scandals, and news items. All alleged, of course. Though it does make one wonder if those aren't a cover-up to distract from what's really happening behind the scenes...

Nikolai, ship gunner #2, dedicates themselves to their job with an icy precision and professionalism. They’re newly self-employed as security expert, but don’t seem very excited about the prospect. What they were doing before this they won’t–or can’t–say...

I think there is a mistake in this sentence, it repeats the name Nicolai twice instead of Wolf and MC. In the text when the captain went to pick up Naseem.

You’re right, thank you for the bug report!! Will fix it asap 🫶

There are so many little touches and details that make this game feel alive- I loved seeing the stars going by through the ship's windows, and I particularly liked the animation of docking at Horizon. The chat system is really neat as well. Having it available while the regular textbox is still going isn't something I've seen done often in other VNs. It's a cute in-universe touch.

And can I just say that hovering to see the translation of non-English text is kinda genius? It's tricky trying to visually convey when a character is speaking a different language, and that's a really clever way to do it.

All of the characters are interesting, but I'm definitely most drawn to Ethan. I know everyone kept saying how big/tall he was, but that apron cut-in GOT me. Talk about height difference... I need to know more about this polite, mysterious man.

All in all, it's a great demo/chapter 1. Looking forward to seeing more!
